In 1912, the company "Pears", famous for making soap, produced five illustrated Christmas Books to celebrate the Centenary of Dickens's birth. They had commissioned the artist Charles Green, who illustrated The Old Curiosity Shop in the Household Edition, to provide the illustrations. However, Green died before completing the task, so the publishers hired Luigi Rossi to provide the illustrations for The Cricket on the Hearth instead.
